Littledown Minature Railway is operated by the Bournemouth & District Society of Model Engineers. If you are into model engineering, and/or interested in helping out running the railway then this is the club for you.
B&DSME was established in 1924 and has a membership of about 80, many of whom take an active part in running the Society. Members have a wide range of model engineering interests including locomotives, traction engines, clock making, stationary steam engines, and many other facets of the hobby.
A large number of the members have workshops with metal working tools and machines and have constructed their own models.
The Society is a member of the Federation of Model Engineering Societies.
The raised track is suitable for running 7¼, 5, and 3½ inch gauge locomotives.
Members are free to run their own locomotives on the track.
Visitors are also welcome to the track on running days. If visitors wish to run a locomotive evidence of Third Party Insurance will be required. If using a steam locomotive a current boiler certificate will be needed. Riding trolleys will normally be available. The anti-tip arrangements on the track may prove restrictive for some individually-owned trolleys.
